Arthur Murphy was an honorable man. He served his county in time of war and was devoted to his family. His expectation was to grow old in retirement with his family around him, but fate had different plans. As warden of the State Prison in Exeter, he watched the never-ending suffering of families whose relatives and friends were victims of heinous crimes committed on their loved ones by the death row inmates in his prison. Year after year, the murderers never seemed to reach their court ordered punishment and end. Now he was one of those who suffered and knew the extent of such pain. He would do what he could to end that suffering for those left behind.
